The biggest problem is in most cases you have to pay full fare to get anything like decent miles... Who's going to do that!
It blows man.

Emirates offered me 150 EUR to upgrade from economy to business from BKK to Venice. I guess they sell too many cattle class tickets and hope for the best... to find some who is ok to upgrade. But they found me right after my X did her magic on my bank account.

Don't fly Delta/ United. Fly the cheaper airlines.. Cathay Pacific is great for me from NYC.. always the cheapest rates from where I fly and I always book a few months in advance so no paying through the nose on jacked up fuel prices.

Back to getting Frequent Flyer Miles...most airlines are offering 20-30K miles for signing up for their credit cards, then more miles for usage. Just remember to cancel before the first year is up if you don't want to pay annual fees.

emirates seem to do good deals for frequent flyers - good if you are in the right regional airport - eg manchester
newcastle etc.

I think Etihad have a pretty good deal, if you book three tickets per year you get onto the first level up in their frequent flier programme which includes at least lounge access.
I don't think it matter what price you pay for the ticket either, just give your membership number to the agent/website when you book.

Emirates are turning to shit.
Last few trips ive only being getting half the miles, according to them it was because I was on saver tickets, absolute shite, a saver ticket that still costs you £680 they are taking the piss.
Moving to Etihad from now on.
