I found a superb Italian restaurant in Soi 33 in Naklua. As you go from Dolphin rotary onto Naklua Road you will see a bar sign "So What" - Soi 33 is there - it is the first soi on your right as you go into Naklua Road.
Restauarant name is Piola.
The Pizzas are the soft thin crust original Italian style. Excellent.
The pasta dishes are good to. The seafood pasta is a large serving with plenty of shell food.
It is owned by a charming Italian Swiss gentleman

For me the place is a little showy, a lot of guys trying to impress their dates (who still order from the Thai menu), or non-mongers trying to pretend the holiday brochure for Pattaya wasn't misleading.
It reminds me of a Woody Allen joke, lady one 'the food here is terrible', Lady two 'yes, and such small portions!'.
I don't eat much Italian and the two best Italian meals I've had are at places I can't remember the name off. Maybe someone can help..
The best pasta dish I had was in Naklua, in a soi not far from the Dolphin roundabout, between there and the VIP beer bars. It was on the same soi that housed Boutique Sexy before it moved.
The best pizza I had (by a long shot) was on Soi Xzyte, (last visited 2 months ago). It's a tiny place, almost hidden even on that small soi, between soi buakaow and the grass bowls club. It's now even more hidden by that bizarre Gladiator statue. Proper thin crust, heavy topping Roma style, superb..

after turning left from Soi Diana.
Is it on the right hand side of the road -heading toward Pattaya Klan, or on the left ?
Does the unsigned street lead to the "Bowling Green" ?
Info gratefully received.

I suggest Ristorante Volterra an Italian restaurant hidden into a lateral soi of Soi VC ... Yensabai, the gay bar area, and you really need a compass for to find location.
http://www.ristorantevolterra.tk/
The restaurant as you can see by photo its very simple and a little bit old fashion style, but its very clean, and the owner Mike, he's a Real "Executive Chef" not a chef by slapdash job.

I paid 600Thb for Spaghetti alle vongole, guazzetto di gamberetti and soda water.

Not necessarily fancy / hip , but nice. Same as in Italy, the chef is more important than the "ambiente"! Seems to have a good number of regulars -expats, business man- who prefer value for money above show-off.
By the way: ideal for a stop-over when going to Famous bar.
i found it incidentally, when going to Famous. Just go north on Soi VC and look in the side streets on the right, it is ca. 70m on the left of the side-Soi, look for the Green-White-Red like the italian flag.
