If im booking a carry on flight ie, bkk then onto Phuket, i allow 40 minutes to get through passport control, collect my bags then upstairs to check in for phuket before gate closes. any less and youd prob have to buy another flight.

If your already booked as in transit from your home airport and onward to your destination then dont worry about collecting bags or passport control as you will do at the end of travelling.

Immigration control can be long, so I reccomend 2 hours so you have no stress even if your flight is a bit delayed.

Barolo.

All domestic airlines can transfer your luggage to the appropriate airline for your continuing flight. However, if you are arriving on an international flight with Qatar you will first have to get your luggage and go through customs before you can board your connecting domestic flight with Thai Airways. -Swedeman007

the key point is if you have one ticket or if you have booked two separate tickets - if separate tickets you may have problem so allow maybe 4 hours or more - seems a lot but if you have dalay in your flight you wont make your connection.

Any transit time under 2,5 or 3 hours on BKK airport can be tricky. In March I was in same line as 3 or 4 Russian Airbus passengers... and I came with full Emirates Airbus 380.... I think I waited almost 3 hours and all entry lines were occupied, but then again last time it took me few minutes to finish entry procedures. This is Thailand. You also have to consider where your airplane is, international planes land near the main building and domestic flights are on some distant terminal away from main building so you have to go to plane by bus... so 2,5 - 3 hours is minimum for me.

u can check with qatar about phuket flight - sounds like it should be international all the way - so you should not have to
enter thailand in bangkok but just go to transfer section - only do security check - then go through immigration in Phuket (also international airport)
If not then you could face a long queue depending on when you land - i.e. if you have to transfer to domestic terminal which is separate from main international terminal

Ok, just for information: the luggage was sent till Phuket, but i had to pass immigration in Bangkok. Total time aprox 45 min.
Different story when i flew back : i passed the immigration in Phuket ( nobody was there ) and i went directly into transit area in Bangkok.
Cheers

When you get to Bangkok airport walk past the normal slope that leads up to the immigration line and continue another 20 metres roughly and you will see another slope to an immigration desk that is for "Fast Track" passengers. IE: those flying business class and above who have been given a fast track pass from the airline. However, to the left of that desk is a designated desk for transitting passengers. No que. Never actually used it myself, so aint saying its gospel. But I would still allow 2 hours if possible between flights just in case of arrival delays or any other potential.
