I guess it is possible to do 3G roaming for a data plan...but to do that intentionally is idiotic.
If you disable the 3G and use wifi there is no chance of roaming charges.
I would suggest an Ipad2 wifi only model, the 3G model is $130 more and only useful under limited circumstances. Personally I have an Iphone and an iPad and I use tethering (aka Personal Hotspot) so that the iPad uses the iPhone's 3G connection; but I enable that rarely. 99% of the time I use the iPad with normal wifi.
Get a hotel room with free wifi and you should be fine.

I got an iPad last year, an I use it alot but I still like to have my laptop/desktop computer around for some stuff. Now when I travel I take both with me. With the VPN I got on my last trip to Japan I have the added bonus of being able to watch Hulu and Netflix which makes being here that much more enjoyable.
I also disable the Cellular Data on my iPad and iPhone when I travel and go WiFi only. Since everything is so expensive here it doesn't really make sense to get them. Even if I am here for 5 months like I am this time, and going to Thailand for a month........... forget it definetly NOT worth it. If I need to call home thats what Skype is for. If a girl needs to call me............... That's what the phone in the room is for.

Yep, I would go along way towards agreeing with that statement. Only yesterday I found myself on the Kings X to P'boro train playing connect 4 on my iPad (4 in a row for the yanks) with an unknown suited city gent........I promise you that is true

It did not work for me.
I tried different browsers but that not helped. I was with my ipad2 for 30 days in LOS so I needed that for my trip reports.
The problem is that the forum engine (and many other sites) rewrites the default scripts for uploading a file. There are some sites that dont. Like Flickr. I used that to upload pictures there and post the link here. That is not the best solution but one workaround.
If you do it that way there is a problem though. The forum engine tries to embed the link but it doesnt work really. So if you want the URL to appear as an URL you have to put it between "URL".
If anybody has better workarounds... would be nice to know.

I like some others have a wifi only version which I tether to my iphone4 which I have a thai micro sim from true move if and when I require to use it ,but with so much free wifi around not much point in having the 3G version of the Pad.
One bright point though they have just brought out a new photo app for the pad called iphoto £2.99 ,its not bad for such a low priced app and converts pics lovely for blogging.
