have booked loads ov flights through diffrent sites southhall, netflights, holiday genie, ebookers, etc etc and always had my airmiles once u have had conformation ov ur flight...u log-on to skywards put in ur ref ov fight which usually a mix ov 4 letter and two numbers.... then you go on to mange ur flight ..... which has info on what airmiles are made to u on said flight... u can also pick your seat for said flight so sometimes earlier the better, and thats ALL ur flights outward and return... u can even pick what kind ov meal u wish ie veg glutton free low cab etc etc........ Theres alot ov benifits to being a skywards member just take abit ov time with it all when u log on and u reap the rewards to make ur flight more enjoyable.... Regards Garry

@ Kendo, Ive flown with Emirates a few times and may still do in Feb, but Etihad do have the hold on me with only 2 hour "stopovers"

Emirates with their 3 hour (+) stopovers are a bit much, plus its easier for me to go get a ciggie in Abu Dhabi airport

I also nearly book all my Flights & Ins through Net Flights and never had a problem getting my Air miles, I just hand the girl my Etihad or Emirates Card when Im checking in.

Last trip I booked with Air France only 4 days in advance at £487.00 this September. Trip in February this year with Emirates £565 6 days in advance. You can get cheap seats if you are prepared to book late as they sell off the remaining seats cheaper. It as never backfired on me yet.

thats is a viable strategy for the "deep" low season, but i will mostly not work out for times in higher demand

punched in my dates for April 2012,

getting £701 GBP for the same flights I had this time round with Emirates, about £30 more then I paid for October.

Stick or Twist?

Stick or Twist?

A dilemma indeed. I've always been one to book my flights early when the price looks agreeable - sometimes it works and sometimes not, but I've never been disappointed with the price I pay. I set up a price alert as normal this year and, for the first time, prices have remained stable for the entire 6 months. Thai Airways even put a spanner in the works by dropping their (usually high) fares towards the end of the period. Next year is anyone's guess - [url=http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/travelnews/8579876/Air-Passenger-Duty-air-tax-increase-could-add-14-to-the-cost-of-a-flight.html]there are plans to bump airport tax up again[/url[. A £30 increase isn't a great deal in the grand scheme of things - if it gives peace of mind, snap it up.

I just got a Korean Air flight, Atlanta to BKK in April for $220 less than I just paid for my Nov Trip.
It's a different flight than I usually take. Leaves 30 minutes after midnight and gets to BKK about
11am the next day. 24 hours. Probably fly over the north pole again. $1230. for this trip.

My input...

Firstly, to all those in the UK, I think you should be looking to transit within Europe to find better fares. The recent rise in APD means you pay less tax to the likes of Amsterdam or Frankfurt, then you will transiting through the Middle East or India...

With regards to booking fares...when you know what dates you are going, and have the cash, book the fare thats right for you at the time.

In my experience of the industry, fares generally only go up the nearer the time you want to travel, as seats on a flight get less, or the price of fuel goes up, and OTS, I'm surprised you haven't been caught out yet mate.

Booking direct with the airlines generally follows this rule, however agents like Expedia etc are able to offer specially negotiated fares that others can't as they see fit. It's kuck of the draw as to when they come out.

I travel standby these days through my staff travel at work, but i'd never leave it late.

More so, you end up with the options on the shittest airlines, and the least desirable connections as all the others have been booked in advance.

If you are a bit flexible with your dates, 1 to 2 months beforehand is the best time to book, the airline knows which planes do not have good loadfactor and will price accordingly. That said, there are now already great deals until june, or from September till October from Europa that is.

I always book between 60 and 90 days from departure. Any specials that are coming up will usually pop up in side that window, and from 60 days onward prices (IME) only go up.

Have been using Eva from London
Love the large seats in Elite and very good non-stop flights
Go out at night come back in daytime works well for me
Latest flight booked for June at £810 (with discount for previous miles) but this flight gains no airmiles
The food and service is not that good but the staff are very pleasant
Looked into flying to amsterdam but times meant I would have had a full day in Holland and needed an hotel overnight on way back so money saved on main flight was spent on extras
my friend swears by Thai and I found their internal service good.
And another flies cheapest possible on matter where and how
suppose at end of the day you do what you like, I like comfort and peace on the plane so find Eva offers the best option for me

BA flights to Bangkok from London are slowly dropping in price...and are now more comparable to EVA and Thai for direct options.

This is since the drop of the BKK-SYD leg of the journey....and BA/QF wanting to send more kangaroo route traffic via Singapore.

I know BA isn't everyones cup of tea, but strikes are all done, products getting better (rumours of the new 777-300ER on the BKK) and now the price falling.

PM me to look into "mates rates" for you.....

I booked direct with Emirates on 28thDec 2011 to fly 18April 2012 for £449 all the agents for the same flight were substantially more expensive , cheapest was £511 with Dial a Flight with the dearest being Expedia at £598.
All for identical ticket on same flights on same date.
