Recent years have seen numerous interruptions to flights - volcanoes, fog, snow, British Airways strikes, the introduction of stricter controls after shoe bombing attempt... It seems like there is never an end and has turned flying into a major ordeal instead of a pleasant experience. (I'm speaking for fellow economy passengers here ! ) Anyone flying to or from Heathrow on the 30th Novemeber can expect to endure another headache - Immigration officers strike. Airlines are being asked to cut their 'load factor' (read 'flights') by up to 50% and inexperienced replacement staff could see backlogs of 12 hours during which passengers may be detained on aircraft !

I found it to be a little intimidating and as a result ended up with a gg the last night I was there. Second visit was for the most part the same. This time I will definitely be trying the entertainment.

I think there has been some sort of fine imposed on North American carriers if they keep passengers on the plane for more than 3 hours after landing and before takeoff. There was U. S. carrier fined a whole lot of money recently, I am not sure how much. Possibly something that should be done everywhere. These delays seem to something that happens only in North America and European countries. Have not encountered this anywhere in Asia.

It was an American Eagle (subsidiary of American Airlines) and they were fined 900,000. Dont know if Uncle Sam collected or even will collect. What they should do is, split the fine with the people who suffered i.e the passengers!! The crew should get a slice as well. Do you think THEY want to be trapped along with the sad sacks!!! NO THEY DONT!!!!

The problem with this is when the 3 hour limit is coming close. the plane will go back to the gate. more often than not, it will result in the flight being cancelled!!!!

After you pay for a flight, you are completely at that airlines mercy. If they have any.
And they know it

I am flying out from GLA to Cyprus(PFO) on Wedneday so I hope no problem. Biggest problem will be for incoming passegers with LHR and then LGW predicticted to be worse hit. LHR will be by far the worst with 12 hour queues for incoming pasengers being flagged as a possibility. Great publicity for the UK!! All Uk public sectors unions need a reality check on their pension situation. Wake up and smell tne coffee.....as the Yanks say!
