Thinking of purchasing some pirated programs from tukcom, just wondering if they work ok when you get home?

I was talking to a guy in there from near me, and he mentioned that it might fuck up your PC if you forget to update your anti virus.

Just wondering , before i buy any, if any BMs have any past experiences?

Cheers

Wanghin..

It usually does work. Once in a while you get a bad/non readable CD. However, everything they sell can be downloaded for free through torrents.

You do have to worry about viruses, so install the latest AV program and then scan the disk before installing anything.
I have found viruses more common with disks that contain dozens of programs (like a video utilities disk), than with disks for a single program (like MS Office or photoshop)

I concur with Start123 from (long in the) past experiences that these disks tend to have about 80% readability success rate, but the software worked well. I also concur with him that it's not necessary any more due to the wide availability at the moment of torrent downloads.

Regarding the virus issue - most software requires the installer to run a crack or patch to fudge it into being 'registered', and often times your anti-virus software won't like this as it is writing to system files. You can tell your AV to ignore and allow the change, as these are usually false-positives, but nowadays this is also a good method for putting a trojan program on your computer, which can lead to things like your computer unwittingly becoming a zombie and being used by criminals in mass denial of service attacks and other delights.

This latter point is of course worst case, and the majority of AV alerts as I say are false positives, but that's the gamble you take when installing expensive software for free. Torrents are again preferable in this respect, as you can at least read the comments of other downloaders to see if they had any issues, and take a judgement based upon those.

Lastly, I have no idea what the legal issue is, but nowadays with DVDs it must be very easy to be effectively smuggling $000s worth of contraband, and I imagine that might not go down too well if discovered at any airport. If you feel compelled to do this, you might want to first consider copying onto hard disk or flash drives and ditching the optical disks, but again not totally risk-free.

My question is why would you buy any software, much less pirated software when you can download torrents of just about any software this is available.
I agree with DonqyJon as there are comments posted along with every file available on torrent sites which tell you the good, bad, and the ugly.
Try http://isohunt.com or http://btjunkie.org/ or just use Google and search for "torrent". I quit buying software years ago due to the quality and availability of software on torrent sites. -Swedeman007

I have never used pirated software, but I'll have to check out the torrents sites. Since I need something for an old computer that I can't seem to find anywhere.

Sometimes things are good. I know adobe software very well, use Photoshop and Lightroom daily, but needed an upgrade for Dream weaver for Mac. So saw a copy of Adobe Creative suite Master Collection and took a punt on it. Now in the UK the full price would be 135,197 baht, I bought the copy for 300 baht, and it all works and even accepts the software updates. No registration problems, internet on or off works A1. Well chuffed. Wont recommend the shop though as GF bought a game for her PC to and that had missing files etc, couldn't get it to run and shop refused to take it back, pretended to check it and said its all Ok etc: Its always a gamble buying dodgy software. But I got a good one on this occassion

I got a copy of AutoCad 2010 from a place at Tukcom cost me 1200bht same thing is around £1700 per licence in UK, worked okay but would not install updates but hey for that money who cares, still using it now to update drawings on a daily basis.
I took my laptop to the shop when I was buying the software and basically told the guy to install it there and then and I would pay him if it worked , could tell it wasnt a rip off with how keen the guy was in the shop to help install it

Just a warning re Torrents. The big sites are employing detectives to check ip's of users downloading torrents on certain sites. Grooby, for instance, have a john doe suit running at the moment. They then apply to the courts for an order against isp's requiring disclosure of the owners of specific ip's. Just put the terms inside these brackets into Google, do not put the brackets in the search! (millenium tga inc lawsuit)

The biggest torrent site on the net is thepiratebay but that also gets the biggest surveillance. There are Private Trackers which are safer but I read that they require an invitation.

Sirmartin,

Don't let the detective threats scare you. I have TBs of music and software, have been downloading torrents on public torrent sites and have never had a problem. Don't believe everything you read on the Internet, especially as it relates to piracy. Mr. SN

I have a friend being chased at the moment for downloading shemale torrents that's why I warn. Surprisingly BT is a good isp for fole sharers. They only have a few ip's for all their customers so it is extremely difficult to identify a user from their ip.
I mod a site so we are always watching what is happening.

Let them chase, not worth the cost of legal action to persue an individual downloading for personnal use. i use UTorrent all the time, not purchased a movie for 3 years or any music download it all for free and will continue doing it as long as my ISP allows it through.
Cant be arsed with porn.
