Do be carefull and realize potential penalties are stiff.

While I'm not suggesting you ignore that, everyone I know that has been busted with Xanax has gotten off with a 1000-3000 baht "fine".

To be honest I did eat a fuck load of food before I had one so maybe that reduced the effectiveness

If you are drinking alcohol this also reduces the affect most people use them when they are preparing for trip home. they are exhasted anyway and have started reduction in partying looking to start slight detox and the inevitable home journey . The tabets reduce thought racing and give you a 20/ 30 min window to induce sleep so a combination of exhastion and reduced alcohol lets you get a sleep .either on plane or in patts hotel a few days before trip home . Diazepam similar but more adictive ,sleeping tablets zoplicone solpiderm dont reduce the anxiety the same and have a metal taste in mouth and a feeling of tiredness on awakening.

Clinic next to pooks on soi buakhaow.

Unfortunately, that pharmacy closed shop. I was lucky enough to purchase 60 pills when they were still open.

10 Baht/Pill.

Later I tried to buy them at a different pharmacy (corner of Buakeaw/Diana) and they told me they can't sell them anymore. They sold me a substitute which was of no use. No effect at all but more expensive.

It really pisses me off that some fuckheads use the drug for illegal activities and the authorities make it illegal for everyone. I bet the fuckers have a supply from illegal channels now as they do with any other controlled drug.

O.

PS. try the drugstore on Patpong 1 if you are in BKK. They have everything.

I always understood benzodiazepines hit you more with alcohol in your system

Benzo s ( benzodiazipines )are known as downers in drug cultures .are manly used as an anti anxiety medication as well as lorazepam , nitrazepam  if taken  whilst consuming alcohol can lead you to risk like behaviors everthing slows down your thought process is poor and judgement jaded speech and manerisms slurred. Worst scenario is when taking both the affect is minimal except for the above leads to frustration and taking more of one or other this can then cause overdose to death. The origional poster spoke of xanax (alparazam generic name is possibly most addictive of benzodiazipines) for flights again my advice if taking any new medication try it a few days before flight . To gauge you reactions if ok buy this time hopefully alcohol consumption is reduced for journey home then should be okay for sleeping on plane diazepam or lorazepam similar advice especialy if your fear of flying makes you nervous .. hope this is helpful to any posters..

An alternative to Xanax is Atarax (hydroxyzine hydrochloride). This is an antihistamine, but has the same effect, it makes you very drowsy.  One Atarax tablet (25mg) knocks me out cold.  Has the added advantage that it's legal. A box with 20 tabs is less than 100 baht, so cheap too.

Good option i think we have same phenegran 25 mg and can come in 10mg also under same generic name. Less side affects and as you rightly stated legal can buy it hear in local chemist. They do however only last a few days tolerence happens quickly with these so fit for purpose however for flights and short term insomia.

...These pills do not cost much from an actual pharmacy where you live, so why not ask your family doctor for a few Triazolam (Halcion) which actually is specific for helping you sleep?

1/4 mg will put you out to combat jet lag, it is very short duration which is what you want, and you wake up naturally without a benzo hangover. Are people afraid to ask a GP for something as routine as this? Mine will give me 20 at a time though I only use 2 per trip.

I was wondering the same - surely you want something to 'help' on the outward leg as well ? Plus you will get the genuine article and not risk a Thai knock-off with unknown provenance. You only have to catch one of those documentaries about fake medication to put you off for life - they don't just make them out of innocuous filler, sometimes it's brick dust, rat poison...! I suspect many have 'imagined problems' that they are unwilling to take up with their registered medical practitioner ?

Sometimes slacker  brits tend not to see the importance of a good relaxed flights .feel with the over burdon on GPs they would not make an appointment for this . I however truly believe it is a valid concern and they should make appointment fortnight before travel .explain fears for long haul flights and your local practioner is not doing his best for you if they dont prescribe the above.

If you are anxious, then I can see the need fo a tablet although the more realistic approach would be not to fly ! It is possible to sleep on a flight...in business class, but even a horse tranquiliser wouldn't get me comfortably asleep in cattle class. There is a reason why we all arrive in dreadful shape, but tablets aren't the answer. Unfortunately society has now evolved to the position that we all want a quick pharmaceutical fix for everything. Many abuse Viagra / Cialis, etc. because they drink too much, sleep too little and still want to get a stiffy 4 times a day. Don't even get me started on obesity...! Maybe by not prescribing anything your local practitioner is doing his best for you ? Just another way of looking at it.

I have switched back to Emirates after a couple of tester runs with the direct services from Heathrow (EVA). The most positive point with Emirates is that I can fly at 13.35, so no early start, and land at 12.05 ensuring no wait for room and the chance for a catnap before the excitement of being back in Bangkok sets me up for the first night. There is no way on God's earth that I can get to sleep while sitting upright (at work is a different matter !), so I have to settle for light dozing. The flight times do however make a big difference. The only time I have slept on a flight is with an upgrade to Business after the 2008 closure of Suvarnabhumi...once I'd stopped dicking about with the multiple seat adjustments !

I found that a 10 km motor bike ride out of town equated to a Pharmacy being rather more relaxed
