Pattaya Villagers Force HIV House To Relocate

Pattaya villagers have forced a HIV house that has around 30 patients to be moved out of the village because they are afraid of becoming infected.

PATTAYA – May 26,2015 [PattayaDailyNEws]; Lang Nern villagers had discussed and agreed to move the 30 HIV patients from a home before the 12th June 2015 because the home had affected the economy in the village. In addition, some residents had moved away because they were afraid they might get infected.

However, the officials explained to the villagers that the patients live together and there was no chance of becoming infected but they still insisted the patients needed relocating.

Mr.Wichian Bangsiri aged 32 an officer from HIV house revealed that he was really upset that the villagers didn’t welcome the foundation and have driven them away. The problem is that the foundation hasn’t got enough money to relocate and the foundation had already made a deal with the land owner.

Mr.Mai Chainit-mayor of Nong Prue- revealed that the officials had found a new place for the foundation but the foundation rejected it.

Surely a place like this would benefit from a charity event?

Unfortunately this kind of prejudice is all too common in Thailand. It's what prevents many sufferers from even getting the (free) treatment. Shame on Thailand !

There's plenty of the NIMBY crowd in the US, too

Completely agree jimbo. There's 365 days in a year, would think someone else besides SW can put one together in Patts.

It's a sad attitude, but even in our 1st world countries you'd get this sort of response. Try opening a HIV hospice/clinic with 30 residents in the many suburbs in Australia and you'd get the NIMBY's up in arms.

Sadly I think you would. Fear makes all of us act less human than we should.

Try building a prison, in the suburbs.
