It's not a matter of how many come , it's a matter of how much they spend, and what they spend it on

I've been checking agoda over the past week. Even today there is still lots of hotel rooms available at reasonable prices for week of Jan 25th and the week after.

Having said that, Chinese new year this year is Feb 8th so I presume there will be lots more Chinese from Feb 6th. I'll be leaving on Feb 5th so should avoid it but might have been nice to have seen some fireworks. Are there any big celebrations in Pattaya for Chinese new year ?

I was there end November till 18th December and enjoyed the perks of it being quiet as well as very cheap flight and enough space to lie down on both legs, as the tourists ramped up to the holiday period (notably more fumes from the endless Chinese tour coaches) I was glad to depart. Now I'm toying with a return in May due to cheap flights again (less than 400 return), what's it like then anyone ? I'd imagine on the quiet side which will do me again tbh.

Songkran over, the real low season setting in.
Some of the smarter ones might sit it out in the province, preferably with sponsor money.
But all in all, oversupply and all starving for your baht.
