Well, I returned from Pattaya 2 weeks ago. I originally booked the Pattaya Bay Resort for 2 1/2 weeks, since it was recommended frequently on this board. When I walked into my room, I immediately did not want to stay. It was so plain and sterile, I didn't like it. I could have been at home at an airport Days Inn. However, they made me pay the entire first week in advance so I was stuck. I decided to make the best of it, but it wasn't easy.
Here is what you can expect from the PBR.
1) There is not one stitch of carpeting in the whole building. You will hear girls high heels clammering down the hallway as they come in for the night and leave early the next morning. It is so unbelievably NOISEY in this hotel. Doors slam at all hours. People talking in the hall sounds like they are in bed with you. Everything echoes. Forget about a good nights sleep.
2)The location is OK but dangerous at night. The hotel is set back behind a slum off Soi 15. I was hassled by two LB's on motorbikes that were about to rob me just before the long driveway into the hotel at 2AM. If you have been there before, they drove up an boxed me in right where they have the street food carts during the day at the end of the entrance from Soi 15. I pushed one off and ran.
3) The shower is terrible. I had to ASK for hot water and the pressure is pitiful. It's hard to even get clean.
4)The staff can be rude. Although "Beauty" was nice, I asked the front desk girls what time the show started at Exite. They looked up from their texting an magazines and told me to call myself. Nice concierge service!
5)(see photo) There is a slum across the street which I could see from my room. I watched the residents bath, piss, and go into the outhouse, while standing on my balconey. They use a communal open pool of water to bath and for cooking the food at the stands outside the hotel on Soi 15. Eat there and you will surely get sick.
6) The slum was expanding and doing construction starting at 0750. Not good when you are just getting to bed at 0600.

I couldn't take it after a week and moved to the LK Renessainnce, which is delightful. A totally different world.
PBR is cheap, but it's horrible. So it's LB friendly. So what! Do you think it's the only goddamn LB friendly hotel in Patts!!!
Fuck this place. I was miserable there. You will be too. Take my word for it and stay somewhere else.

The photo is from my balconey. Do you want to fly halfway around the world and see this from your balcony??? I don't think so!!!Attached Image: Pattaya Bay Resort 002.JPG

Honestly you see 'slums' like that everywhere I actually find it fun to see whats going on outside wherever I'm staying so long as where I'm staying has a wall and is nice on my side!
Sorry you had such a shit experience, I like Nova Platinum in Pattaya if you are looking for future ideas.

Well I have to say that I like the PBR. I've stayed there many times and found the staff friendly and the rooms clean (the lack of carpets allows them to keep things cleaner than a place with carpets).

I never got in at 6am but I'd often roll in a 2:30 to 3am and never go harrased or threatened by anyone. There are always motorcycle taxi guys nearby should you call out.

I guess your impression depends on where you come from. I'm spending most of my life in a 5 star hotel nowdays (paid for by an expense account) so when I come to Pattaya on holiday that's my most recent experience but I still find the PBR holds up well. The PBR even provides a brand new toothbrush for your date (at no extra charge). That's a nice plus.

I mostly have had rooms facing the back (the jungle behind the hotel). I don't sit on the balcony because it's just too hot.

i spent 4 weeks there last june never had a problem, as for gettin harrased by ladyboys on scooters if u look like easy prey it will happen anywere i never had that problem i was returning to my room in the even later hours in the morning strolling back from walking street or soi boukow. I found the staff poliete and helpful. But you get what you pay for the low season monthly deals are execellent value and the hotel is in a great position i would stay there again.

Nate 40,

I fully agree with you. When I am in Pattaya, I always stay in a 5 stars hotel, where I am used to take my ladyboys and girls. But,last November, I used PBR just for a night. It was a nightmare: the noise was unbearable, the room was dirty and, as you said, the hot water pressure was very low. I did not care about too much, simply because I was busy to fuck for the all night Jen (from EZY bar, very good, by the way), but I could not have slept anyway. I even had to pay in advance, despite the fact that I showed to them my credit cards. PBR, for various reasons, is advertised in many Pattaya forums, but, in my opinion, most of what has been written does not correspond to reality at all.

I stayed there the last week of July(my 2nd stay btw),and they where building the new elevator, but not even that caused much disturbance.
And i have only good things to say about the staff, very friendly and polite.

And for the rooms, they allways keep it clean and no matter what time you asked.....they allways went up to clean and make the bed.

And yes,i will most def stay there again.

nate40 : Ive stayed there many times and never had any problems there u comment about the hot water in many hotels they dont have hot water as u dont need it as the day is way to hot in season and who wants a hot shower when the temp ouside is 35 deg ? u just want to cool off not take a hot shower.

One more thing u get what u pay for pbr is just basic accom,
For people who are on a budget lk is more upmarket and u pay a lot more for it ive stayed in both and never had any problems in either, staff were friendy in both and also pbr is close to walking street which saves u money on taxis in the long run.

Yes, Gaz, you are right that PBR is very basic and a more budget type hotel. However, I wanted to share my experience because there may be other members who wanted to try the PBR to save some money. I guess my point is, if you can afford to stay somewhere else, do it. I like to try new hotels and that's why I gave PBR a chance. I wound up at my comfort level at LK.

ok I stayed in PBR recently.

The noise is true. Some english guy just turned on the music and try to be a singer. It is really true that you hear your neighbours. I got the room overlooking the jungle, which was quiet and I did not nee to look at any slum. With the water it was not so bad, but it is right, that I had to wait a while for getting a hot water, but then it became too hot. Well cleaning was not that speciality of the hotel. The bed linen was not changed every day. For me it seemed the bathroom was not cleaned at all in my opinion. Maybe the floor. But maybe I kept it so clean that I did not realized the difference. BUT my toothbrush was definitely not moved and the glas half full of water was remaining on its last position with the water in it. I gave 40THB tip every day. Maybe it was not enough. And I was told that the cleaning finishes at 3pm, which is too early. I think that is why they did not clean my room properly. But who cares that is the Thai way. In C&N hotel in Phuket I get far better service for 1000THB than in PBR that is for sure.

Reading this dreadful report I can only say… my god how I miss Thailand. I’ll switch all 5-star hotels I must stay on my business trips for an early morning look on Pattaya slum. And I do think I’m not the only one. Mai pen Rai, this is Thailand FFS. :Turns Into Heart:

There have been many posts on the Pattaya boards over the last few years (including some from me) about how noisy PBR is. The walls are paper thin and the corridors reverberate. As a light sleeper, it's no good for me.

However, when I stayed there a couple of years ago, that was the ONLY complaint I had about the place. It was clean, the staff were friendly, and I don't remember any problem with the hot water.

I don't understand the comments about PBR being a budget, not very high-class, hotel.

They have a roof-top swimming pool with restaurant; shuttle service to Second Road/Soi Bukhaow; the deluxe rooms are very spacious.

The thing that put me off last time was that I booked a standard room and got that horrible view plus constant noise from airconditioning/refrigeration units from left of the hotel (when looking out from my room),whereas previously I had had a view of the 'forest' at the back of the hotel.

I had a not very good-looking and very thin girl on a motorbike ambush me as I was about to turn into the driveway late one night. She said she was from the Butterfly Bar. It didn't occur to me until long afterwards that she may have been an LB.

Last time, I was not asked to pay anything until I left and was not asked to pay any deposit. I was also allowed to check out a week early to move to another hotel. They said they didn't mind even if it was at very short notice, as they had a shortage of rooms available.

I might consider staying there again if I could get a deluxe room facing the back of the hotel at a good price, but I doubt it. The thing that really puts me off is the inconvenient location.

Nice pictures of hotel room, they look very familiar from more than just one TR picture set. :Smile 1:

BR

p.s.
You should hear the noise in my room on WS, PBR noise can’t compare even a bit but on the other hand... I don’t care, when I go to sleep for a few hours I need to stay alive B) , nothing can wake me up. Not even noise from WS at 3PM.
