Last time I was over, I spent more time than I have done in years in Walking Street. I had two really good STs there, one with a gorgeous LB from Linda Bar and then with an absolutely stunning GG from Whats Up. It struck me that it's a good mongering plan. Just cruise WS until you see something you just have to have, then go for it.

Both times, we went to an ST hotel that the girl knew - both of them immaculately clean and decent, no problem at all, one of them was actually quite smart!

But an ST hotel, no matter how nice it is, is always a little bit impersonal. And it costs another few hundred baht of course. Both my companions would have been OK about coming back to my hotel, even though it was just for ST, and it wasn't too far away ( LK Metropole), but somehow I didn't want to go all that way. It sort of took away the impulsiveness a bit and, I don't know, just seemed a bit of a waste of time. The good thing about doing the ST right there and then was that you could carry on wandering afterwards. Sit in a bar and re-live those precious porno moments over a beer. Notice that you're suddenly starving hungry and stopping for something to eat. Being an idle sod, if I'd gone back to the hotel, I know I would have probably just stayed in afterwards, which is a waste of valuable Pattaya.

So for my next trip in Oct, I'm trying to book as near as possible to Walking Street itself. I've been trawling the net and so far my shortlist is:

Nova Platinum - my odds-on favourite at the moment. Dead handy, just at the top of the Arab Soi on Pratamnak/2nd Road. Whcih would place it about 60 seconds walk from Ezy Bar! Nice, modern Eurochic rooms, nice looking pool and garden. Good value money-off deal. Two drawbacks: there's only a shower (although it's a big walk-in one) and I do love a soak in the bath. And according to reviews on tripadvisor, the rooms are pretty small and it can be noisy in the wee small hours, with doors slamming and hookers departing.

(Although, personally, I always find the sexy late night sound of high heels clacking along a hotel corridor gets me leaping out of bed and diving for the peephole, just in case she's an absolute stunner who might fancy a quick second shift!)

Galaxy Suites - right in Walking Street, and as it makes plain on its website, dedicated 100% to mongering. Apparently the lobby is used as an informal changing room for the gogo girls from Heaven Above club(which owns it). I would only want to take the jacuzzi suite, which is twice the size of all the others. Possible drawbacks - I could imagine that it might be a bit grim and ramshackle and, being right in the middle of WS, could be a bit of a nightmare. Very little chance or facilities for just chilling out. And it's apparently hard to make a booking or communicate with them by email.

Lido Beach Hotel - recommended on this forum by Victor-X. Looks very interesting, although the superior apartment which Vic uses is a bit expensive for me at 4000+. The more modestly priced suites look plenty big enough, although the furniture does look a tiny bit dated. I'd be interested to know which of the other rooms and suites have private entrances.

Any of you stayed at any of these places? Or any other suggestions?

By the way, this might sound like I'm ridiculously choosy. But I do work hard for my corn and I'm happy to pay good money for quality accommodation, as I find it's a big part of a relaxing holiday. And going round the net, looking at the websites and reading reviews, is all part of the pre-trip excitement. Honestly, I'm generally quite an easygoing guy!

I think your problem is going to be finding a place of any decent quality in Walking street or only a few blocks away. There are plenty of places (Secrets, Honey Lodge, etc) that are all right next to or on Walking street but in my opinion are overpriced and are of a lower quality.

I don't think any of these places would really be nice enough for you considering you said you don't mind spending for quality and you have stayed at the Metropole.

Nova platinum is probably your best bet.

I definitely understand your point about being lazy and if you took STs back you'd likely stay in. I'm a lazy son of a bitch and the idea of having to walk a substantial distance to 2nd rd and then catching a baht bus is a pain in the ass. I generally like to stay places where I can practically walk outside and hop on a baht bus thus minimal effort is required to reach destinations. This concession would give you a bunch more quality places to stay (like Sabai Lodge, Summer Spring or Tims.) These are my short list places because they're a good quality and I can get on the baht bus easily and I can enjoy the passing scenery while I sit my lazy ass down on the bus.

Hi Snapper.

It's not a new hotel but Amari took it over about 2 years ago, refurbished and renamed it. (Amari has a great reputation, which is encouraging.) If my memory serves me right and I'm thinking of the right place, it used to have a bowling alley in it and might have even been called Bowling Alley Hotel!

It's right on the main road - 2nd Road as it changes its name to Pratamnak, just before the road breaks into two forks, more or less opposite VC Hotel.

Reviewers on tripadvisor.com have mentioned that it is guest friendly and no joiner fee. They also give it generally positive reviews, by the way, except for the guy who says it's noisy late at night. No info on its attitude to more than one guest. I will investigate that one myself!

By the way, there is also Siam Bayshore which is apparently very nice and luxurious and in the right area, but that does charge a joiner fee.

And finally, guys, no one has any info on the VC or Camelot Hotels? They're both in the area and both big places. No one stayed?

I've stayed at Galaxy Suites. You may be able to get a lower rate until a few weeks before Christmas. Never had any problem booking with them online or getting replies.

It's impossible to walk down Soi Diamond (where the hotel is) without being grabbed by someone and it's not the quietest of locations. Personally, I wouldn't stay there again, but it's modern and the American owner, Eddie, is friendly and helpful.

It's in Beach Road Soi 13 - not very near Walking Street.

I always stay in Swiss Food Hotel. Swiss owners are extremely responsive (same hour answer, always helped me when I needed place to stay same day...). Rooms are ok, clean and best of all on Soi Diamond practically 20m away from my one and only place to party... Ezy.

Hi all.
Thanks for your thoughts and ideas.

I've finally settled on Nova Platinum. Deluxe room reduced from 2.5k to 1.65k - a good deal for what you get! I'm not there till the 23rd, and will post a review straight after.

I should have thought of the Swiss Food Hotel, which one of the guys mentioned. I remember checking it out a few years ago. It has one big room on top with its own roof garden and a whirlpool - great for a party! Cheap as well. I think that big room is only about 1.7k. I have eaten in the restaurant and it's good. Not fantastic, but good.

Someone asked about Sandy Spring - I've stayed there lots of times. Great hotel, bright and airy, brilliant friendly staff, guest friendly including LBs, and possibly the best value in Patts. Ask for a deluxe sea view room - it's only about 1.8k and the view at sunset really is fabulous. Last time I was there, last year, the room was starting to look just a tiny bit tired - I think carpeting hotel rooms in tropical countries is never a good idea - but not enough to make it off putting. It doesn't have a kitchen but is literally next door to the excellent Sportsman and you can order anything from there and they'll bring it for you.

It's not bang next door to Walking Street, so I didn't consider it this time, but otherwise it's very well placed generally - less than five minutes to the beach, 2nd Road, Stringfellows and La Bamba!

the Galaxy Suites looks very interesting - I'd be interested in any feedback.

Don't like the Siam Bayshore - common areas are great, but last I stayed there rooms were nothing special. Not great value for money & a high joiner fee and they were often rude to the girls & unreponsive to complaints.

What about the Vault - haven't stayed there but have toured through it and a jacuzzi plus a stage & pole in the huge Penthouse suites is pretty impressive.
