for some reason its very difficult to get a visitor visa for the u.s., for some reason they will let straight men spnsor a gg(basically a born female), but the current laws make it nearly impossible for men to sponser a same sex sponser, since the government considers non-op or pre-op transsexuals to still be male, and doesnt recognize same-sex marriage(keep in mind we had a very homo/transphobic administration in power for 8 years, and the "homeland insecurity" dept even went so far as to consider any males dressing up as female, transitioning or not to be terror suspects)plus visitor visas are also very difficult, i tried getting one for Norm back in august (he is a bakla that i am currenly in a relationship with), they denied him because he couldnt prove that he intended to return to the philippines, and the state dept. website is really vague as to what they accept for proof. i decided instead to take a trip to philippines and stay with him and his family for a couple weeks.
Pres. obama is trying to push a bill through congress to allow same-sex couples to sponsor thier partners, and they are trying to work on ending the ban on same-sex marriage, though it will take some time, as bush's party(the republicans aka the pary of hate) is doing the usual mto slow it. my advise would be to check out www.hrc.org, immigrationequality.org or a similar site for updates. ive also been involved in advocacy for the reforms , i dont think me & Norm (or any other bi-national GLBT couple)should be denied a life together because of the bigotry of the u.s. government.
