Anyone done this?

Can travel agents in Pattaya take care of this?
How much does it cost and how long does it take?

I have to interrupt my pattaya trip for a mate's wedding in the villages, they havent seen foreigners since 1975! :Army Salute: :Army Salute:

If I were you, when you arrive in Bangkok, I would spend 1 night / 2 days in Bangkok. Attend at the Vietnam Embassy the first afternoon and pick up your passport on day 2, then head to Pattaya. I would just worry about "Thai time" delays of some agency charging you a small fortune and then praying that you get your passport back within a few days.

Alternatively, just post it to your local Vietnamese Embassy in your home country and tell them your dates and they will post date your visa. I did it this way this year on my trip to Vietnam. That way I knew when I arrived in Asia, there was no mucking around thinking about I had things to take care of.

You will need to fill in a form and provide one or two photographs (I can't remember how many). It may take more than a couple of days depending on how busy they are but you should be able to get your passport back in 2-3 working days.

I just called the consulate here in the States and they want $85 USD and 3 days.... I wonder if the prices vary country to country.?

Does anyone know how much it costs from Thailand?

For Australians it is 70 AUD (around (60-65USD)

I think the price is probably the same wherever you apply from
but differs according to your nationality

I havent confirmed this

I got a Vietnam Visa (valid for 1 month) at the Vietnam Embassy in Singapore recently. The price was 40 USD, yes it was in USD although I applied in Singapore. But they would take Singers as well. The cost was the same regardless of your nationality--however, i do believe the fee may be exempt if you are of certain nationalities. There other prices for different stays. There are also agents that would apply for you for a slightly higher fee.

Did it a few years ago,. it wasn't a problem, but some time ago so cant remember details, sure I got it in Bangkok though. Lonely Planet forum a good source of info for cross border trips, Kaosan road another place, theres loads of travel agents there who for small fee arrange visas, but go to the established ones that have been there some time. Actually sure I got it in Bangkok, went in morning to Embassy ,came back in afternoon all done, but not 100% sure on that. Not my favourite country, somewhat harsher in attitude and watch out for pick pockets, got hit in Trang. Worth a look even if its just to see how many mopeds there are in the world,
