I definitely aim to stay there when I'm in Pattaya next.

Maybe you can enlighten me on what makes a guesthouse different from a hotel, and what are the selling points of a guesthouse over a hotel?

Hi guys,
this is a little late but i just got back from patts in february and had a wonderful stay at Canterbury tales, in fact i just booked it for my august trip. So here is my review...

This was my second trip to Thailand i book a decent room at canterbury tales (3a) A two room suite. It had a bedroom and seperate living room with a balcony. the room had a nice layout, very good air con. late at night there was a little noise but nothing too bad most nights by the time i returned to the room the nearby bars were closed. the food was very good and the had room service available. Also the descet back entrance is wonderful. One of my little tricks to keep my privacy was at night i would bring the lb's in the back in the morning i would send them back out the back and i would leave thru the front entrance. Dave the owner was very helpful and nice. very quick to respond to emails and offer advice. there are a few bars very near the guest house and it is only a short walk to pooks and with the baht buses it is very easy to get to walking street. One of the big bonuses for newbies is the downstairs cafe. their are always some fellow mongers there to talk to and get advice from. If anyone has any questions just pm me and ill try to answer them. i will stay again and do recommend this property very good value for the price.

I guess a guesthouse is more friendly, I dont mean hotels are not friendly its just that when I have stayed in Hotels, there is less of a close knit feeling, some are ok but I personally always felt more at home in a guesthouse setting.

Normally of course a guesthouse maybe more basic and not elaborate decor and grand marble receptions but of course that is what you also pay for.

I have stayed in Hotels that were 4 times more expensive than Canterbury Tales and all very nice3 but less facilities,we have in room safes, DVD players, large free DVD library, etc etc.

One of our main selling points is the atmosphere, I know this because many people tell me, most of our regulars are non judgmental and several guests have sat and breakfasted with us with their L/B and no problem at all.

I personally try to ensure this and a very good pal of mine who I often drink with can be seen luring me into Pooks and alike but dont tell my wife, haha.

Also from my side of it I get to meet guys like sgt694u and I must say has very good tastes, who is a good guy and fitted in straight away the last time he was here and I look forward to seeing him again in August where I am obviously going to keep a much closer eye on him.

Found your place late at night, closed, and planned to book there the next day but things got out of hand and I never made it back ... except to buy a book.... next time I will definitely check inn.

HI Mate, Yes we close at 8pm, open 8am, kinder on the guests you see, have a look at the website as all pics and details there.
