When im in BKK in December, looking for a cheap decent guest house or hotel, found a couple in Pattaya no problem, but BKK seems to be very high prices... any suggestions?

Thanks

What price range are you looking at ?? There are rooms available at EVERY price, just depends on what you want and willing to pay.

I take it you want to be around Sukhumvit Road area?

Let us know and a few suggestions will undoubtedly be made.

Cheers

Hiya, yeah sorry well I got ones sorted in Patt's for 500 - 600 Baht a night, so usually seem to end up paying around 2000 Baht or more in BKK and wanna knock that down to a reasonable price..

Ooooo, now theres a challenge.
Straight off the top of my head, I stayed in Nap Inn on Soi 4 a couple of years ago. That had rooms starting at 600 baht. Very comfortable and clean.
For some reason their webiste is down, so I take it maybe their hotel is closed.

If you are happy to be a wee bit away from the action, but not too far is Malaysia Hotel. Great staff, but a bit of a gay-haunt, but loads of straight mongers go there.
They start at 700 for a single, or 800 for a double room. Its about 20 minute walk from Pat Pong and a 10 minute drive to Suk Road. I really like this part of town as its away from the crowds. I stayed here many times.

If you can stretch to 1220 baht, I would recommend Darjelling Hotel. Go through Tim at Thai Hotel Discounts for this rate. Suk Road Soi 18.

None of these hotels have joiners.

I visited a friend of mine this year who was staying at Khao San Road. He had a nice place at Green House Hotel for 400 baht. Rooms their start at 325. Obviously, its a wee bit out the way though.

I'll keep scratching my head on this one and add later if I come up with anything.

If you want to stay there, I suggest you book early. Its always popular and well booked up in advance.

There is a traditional massage adjoining the hotel. No happy endings but is a fantastic place for a proper massage. Only 250 baht for 2 hours :)

The Star inn on soi 7/1 has decent rooms (not the short time ones!) for 1200B rack but can get down to 1000B! Guest friendly and 24 hour bar!

Here is some info about the Nap Inn, mentioned above, plus a list of other reasonable places around Soi 4 at bottom of the page.

Has anyone looked at the lonely planet website? There seem to be many nice rooms in the $40 (US) range. That's just my preference, I plan on keeping the girl around long enough that the quality of the room matters (but not to test if she'll rob me while I sleep). Good luck finding a place.

There's also the Sukhumvit Crown Hotel at Sukhumvit Soi 6 (Closer to Soi 8 actually), a stonethrow from Nana station (go down Soi 8 and turn right at 7/11, pass Lolita Bar and you're there).

Nana Plaza and Soi 5 is also only a 5 minute brisk walk from there.

Paid 1200 baht/night in November, free wifi, safe in lobby - no joiner fee and they "confiscate" ID of your latest conquest until you're done with her :-)

Breakfast (for both) is ok - but not exceptional.

All in all a decent place at a decent rate - in the middle of a minefield ;-)

I used to live near the Malaysian Hotel it has mostly gay customers. Also there's the gay-friendly hotel Pinnacle Hotel nearby. Opposite the MH is the new Iris Hotel but it seems to cater to groups and businesspeople I doubt it's GG or LB friendly. There are several cheap guest houses near the MH such as Lee Guesthouse and Moon et al. Soi Sri Bampen can be noisy. That area is about a 10-minute walk to Lumpini Park and the subway station. (70 baht taxi ride after the MRT closes) On Suk Soi 22 there's Soms Guesthouse I popped in and had a look seems OK but don't know if it is LB friendly or not. BKK hotels are more expensive than PTY that's one of many reasons I like to party in PTY, even when I lived in BKK.
