Dozens of videos posted to YouTube, along with comments from people whose phones were delivered early yesterday - ahead of today's official launch - show that reception appears to wane if people hold it with their hand touching the metal rim around the phone that forms its two wireless antennae.
The effect only appears to happen if the left side of the phone is connected by the user's hand to the bottom edge. That would create a weak circuit of the two antennae, one for mobile reception and one for Wi-Fi, which lie on a stainless steel band on the outside of the phone.
The principal effect seems to be on mobile data connectivity when the phone is held so that the screen faces the user, with the thumb wrapped around one side – but, notably, with the hand touching the bottom of the phone. One American user who made a video of his problems, testing the phone against a data speed test site, said: "It won't even start the test if I'm holding the phone." The video shows the phone running perfectly when he releases his thumb from the side.

Surely there should be a worldwide recall if this is a major fault?

I read about those complaints on line last night and I can honestly say that I havent experieced any of the issues that people are talking about.
It is what they say that it is a major leap forward form the 3G/3GS.
Most of the retailers are sold in the UK, so I can see that being the only upside to buying in LOS as O2 estimates that it will be July before they have a decent stock again.
I have always found Apple prices to be slightly higher in LOS though.
let us know how you get on JCS.

ROM based jailbreaks were found in all versions until mid way through the 3GS run when Apple fixed the bug in the ROM. I'm hoping that the dev team finds one for the iPhone 4 (as do millions of others).

The European and UK phones are SIM unlocked. I tried a couple of network cards in mine today and they are all working fine.
Yeah, I think its just a matter of time before the genius jail-breakers find a way into the DNA of this phone

Is the microsim common in Europe?
Has anyone heard of AIS or DTAC offering a micro sim? I suppose I could cut down my existing sim.. but I'd rather not.
At present my biggest problem is that Apple in the US will only sell a sim-locked phone... and Apple Canada while it will sell
a sim-unlocked phone it will not ship outside Canada.
You know that AT&T has paid Apple a bunch of money to make it so hard for US Citizens to get a sim-unlocked phone. Apple screws over the customers yet again just to get more money from AT&T. Apple has so far eclipsed Microsoft in evilness it's not even close.
A jailbreak was recently announced but it's a user-land jailbreak and thus easily fixable by Apple in the next software update. Nverthless it will allow people to work on the sim-unlock coding.

I gave up on O2 and ordered one through the Carphone Warehouse.
If anyone wants to do the same ring this number 08007817962 tell them that they sent the number to you via SMS because you registered your interest on the CPW website.
You will have to be quick though... only 84 32's left and no 16's.
As for pro's and cons of having one in Thailand... I wouldn't bother. I wanted to use my old 3G for a Thailand phone but there is no way you can use it the same as we do in the UK/US... using 3G/GPRS/Edge is well expensive even if you get a promotion through DTAC or one2call plus there is no visual voicemail etc etc.

For AIS's 12Call I found a good deal: 214 baht a month for 50 hours of Edge (or 3G if you can find it anywhere). Charging by the hour
is kind of strange as most companies charge by the byte. However this means that if you disable notifications and push email then
your phone will only use Edge when you direct it to check your mail or the web or a map. When you do this you'll be hard pressed to
use more than 50 hours in a month.

It was a link to the Daily Mail who ran a piece on a hoax Steve Jobs Twitter account saying there was to be a recall on iPhone 4 but were reporting the recall as fact c
For obvious reasons, they have take the story down.

Hi JCS< if you get a iphone 4, remember they hold a micro sim, and as far as I know most Thai sims are the standard larger sim, you can however cut these sims down to use in a iPhone 4. I am sure anywhere you can get this done in Pattaya Cut My Sim
Well worth getting, although they run out here and I ain't had a chance still to get one

Hey Lult,
Whats it like in terms of speed on the internet.
I am thinking of getting on so I can view websites on the train at work etc I can't always look at Ladyboys pattaya on my home computer and I don't think it would be wise to log onto the forum at work...
cheers Stevie

With any mobile device, its only as fast as the connection you are getting.
However, even a sniff of a decent connection, it is SO much faster than 3G/3GS at processing the info on the pages.
TT - nice App bud. Ive just downloaded it.
Cheers
