I'm struggling with deciding what to do for my stay in Pattaya Jan 22 - Feb. 9 (18 nights).

In years past I've stayed at the Presidential Suite at the PBR (Pattaya Bay Resort) and although I enjoyed it, it was overpriced for the quality of the room at 3300 baht per night plus taxes, and no tub only a shower.

This year, I was considering the idea of only booking a single night at a hotel, then spending my first day walking in to the various hotels and asking for their best rate for a deluxe room or suite that has a fancy tub in it for the next 17 nights. Now I'm starting to back off that idea as I'm afraid the nicer rooms will be booked in advance. Any thoughts?

As of right now, I'm leaning towards making an advance reservation on Agoda for the LK Renaissance. They are offering a deluxe room with jacuzzi tub for 2633 baht. In comparing it with the deluxe room at the August Suites at 2150, I see the August Suites room only has a bathtub and not a jacuzzi tub.

Anyone stayed at both and have any recommendations? I'd rather pay a bit more for an awesome room than save a few baht and miss out on the feeling of "luxury on a budget".

Any intel you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Also thinking about the Grand Hotel Walking Street - input?

I've stayed at August Suites, but only at their Superior Room. I have no complaints.
Whilst it is fresh, comfortable and nice, its not luxurious.

I've never stayed at LK, but some of their rooms look great value.

I've seen some deals for Fraser Resort which are doing amazing deals through Agoda. This is an international boutique 5 star hotel chain and have opened one in Pattaya.

I just did a web-comparison with TripAdvisor for your dates.
Hotel.com is showing a £37-47 depending which room/suite you go for.

Agoda are pricing £18-£21 (but aren't quoting for the top end room Studio Premier). The £21 is for a Deluxe Courtyard View. Outstanding rate for high season I reckon.

Stayed at both. Prefer August suites. Jacuzzi in Renaissance is just a regular bathtub with bubbles.

Renaissance location is marginally better, but everything else is better at August suites. Make sure to get a room overlooking the pool.

fraser resort looks like great value - think ill try it out next trip for a few days at least - very good location
next to royal garden and close enough to action as well.

Obviously these rates are only to get the hotel up and running so it is unlikely we would see them again !!

Well spotted !!

No, Agoda is offering the Studio Premier for 2,379 ThB during that period. Thanks for the tip, I'll take a look.

Wow, scratch Fraser Resort from any of your potential acommodations lists!!!!!!!

This from their web site:

"* Extra person is 900 thb net per night / per person"

I think I'll still keep my eye on it.
Many of these places talk about that on websites so as not to encourage a flood of mongers, but in reality, will allow up to two people in the room if you book for double occupancy.
Perhaps the next person in Patts can confirm if they are interested in this place???
Edit : BTW, I've sent an email off to them, but many top hotels will give a company answer of 'registered guests only' or something like that. I'll update you when I get a reply. However, if someone is passing this hotel, can you pop in and ask??
Cheers

i think extra person means if there are more than two per room - so one guest may be ok

comment for LULT

Iseems like a good idea to register for two people when checking in --- but how do you register for two people if you arrive on your own ???

Do you have to put in a dummy name for the other 'guest' or just say there are two of you and give them only your passport ????

I always book for a double using asiarooms or some such site, never have a problem, never paid a joiners fee or whatever the hell they want to call it,even in top places like Dusit or Shangri La in Bkk,only one to give me hassle was Holiday Inn because I made a mistake and booked a single occupancy. Most hotels know why we book doubles and turn up alone, I always ask them at check in the proceedure for a guest which is usually a ID check when they arrive. I usually find better quality the joint ,less the hassel as they as professional and discreet, its usually the Thai run hotels who get silly.
I have never stayed at August but many of my friends have,LK hotels are very good and give no crap.

I'm just afraid that when they make it so blatant on the website that's usually a good sign that they really don't want mongers coming in with prostitutes, let alone ladyboys... they are trying to cultivate the family clientel and will do whatever they can to discourage you from staying there. Which usually means hassling you and charging 1000 baht penalty if you try to bring a hooker to your room.

Too many great "guest friendly" hotels already, why take the chance of the hassle?

TBH, in several years of visiting Pattaya I've never heard of anyone mentioning / recommending Fraser Resort as a place to stay either with a GG or LB. Personally I wouldn't want any grief on a holiday, so would suggest going with an alternative that won't give you any hassle.

reviews of fraser from agoda don't look that great - noisy aircon, bad showers, small loom etc.
although this is a new place, it seems the builders have made the same mistakes that they always make with hotels
in thailand.
most of the guests seem to be on packages from hong kong and singapore
shame as the location was good but as other above say - better to stick to the old reliables like LK oand others
around soi diana and soi buakhao

I stayed Frazer once its crap full of Chinese and Koreans ,very noisy and the breakfast aint fit for a dog, another bog hole near it is Baywalk Residence bloody awful considering you can get something like Siam Bayview or Dusit D2 for not a lot more if you book through Asia Rooms or Agoda.
I stayed at Dusit D2 for 4 days last week will do a review when I get time,it was bloody excellent probably the best hotel in Pattaya for the money and right at the top of Soi13/1 but a stones throw from Stringys and LaBamba

Dusit D2 looks sweet Robo - but you're right "best hotel in Pattaya FOR THE MONEY". I'm not a cheap charlie but nearly 8,000 baht for the Studio Suite on Agoda is a lot of cash.

It sure looks like it's worth it though!

Try Asia Rooms and look at a delux room they charge around 3000 bht a night, I was very happy with that its still pretty good.
