Just saw this story on the Thai Visa forum, made me feel sick how these fuc*ers can get away with stunts like this, it's enough to make a lot of people not travel to Patts.
Have a click on the link and it gives you the full story and it's like a little mini Pattaya newspaper. Bottom line is not to get caught by these tossers! :Angry (With Teeth):

PATTAYA: An Irish tourist, on his first visit to Pattaya with two friends, was threatened with a long-bladed knife by one of a group of Thai men who hire out jet skis opposite Mike Shopping Mall.

In what is becoming an increasingly common occurrence in Pattaya, certain jet ski operators have taken a leaf out of the scam book made infamous by their Phuket cousins, and are almost daily extorting money for alleged damage to their property from tourists who hire out the vessels.

A local resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, witnessed a violent confrontation recently between the scammers and tourists, where a large knife was pulled.

Within half an hour of arriving on Pattaya beach he saw three young men (later identified as Irish tourists) hire jet skis for half an hour from a vendor.

The link is below and then just download the neat PDF file.

In 2002 while in phuket I rented a jet ski and was told that I had damaged it while it was in my care but I had taken pictures of it prior to the rental with my digital camera in an underwater housing which I took with me. The last photo was of the rental agent and he was not pleased because of the date and time stamp. I returned the jet ski and they then tried to extort money from me for damages. I shouted to friends and they got the tourist police. I told the police to review the damage on the jet ski with the pictures taken prior to the rental and upon return. The tourist police laugh when he saw the last picture of the accuser prior to the rental. End result was they told the operator no damage was found and he was told to pack up and go. This was quite satisfying to me but I was nervous for the next couple of days because I did not know if the jet ski operator would take revenge out of the clear blue sky, seeing he lost business because he was made to leave the beach, aside from not be able to scam me.
