As I arrived back at Suvarnabhumi Airport a few days ago, I was amazed to see my name being
held up by two different people. I always book my car with image limo as they have very safe
drivers. I recognised my driver as wearing the Image unifom, but went to the other person who
was holding my name on a card, as it felt something was not right. He just grabbed my bags and
expected me to follow him. I asked where was he taking me, to which he replied the car park,so
asked again and he asked me where I was going i.e. Bangkok, Pattaya. I just said thank you,
grabbed my bags and walked over to my Image limo driver, who told me that some people look at
names on boards that drivers hold up, copy them and hold them up to steal their passengers. God
knows if they actually take them to their destinations!

Welcome to Thailand!

I've seen a similar scam at the Thailand/Cambodia border crossing in Poipet. If you arrange a fixer nowadays, the guy will likely have your name on a foldable sheet of paper to prevent others from copying it. He flashes your name really quickly so you have to be sharp. This may be a bit more difficult to do at Suvarnabhumi where the traffic is much heavier, but I would expect a variation on it soon.

Phone scam.

Left my phone in a bar to visit the ladies (sorry boy's room). No problem and no theft. When I tried to call someone I found I had no credit and my 'Call History' had been deleted. So now they will steal your phone credit - easily done - dial 160 (I think) and enter phone number to credit. They have no morals - None.

Opportunistic. A friend now puts phone/money everything in his safe BEFORE inviting back. he only has the amount agreed/budgeted in the room. Good move.

The High season was not just short it was minimal. Many hungry mouths/sick buffaloes/dying grand parents etc etc......
Take care as times are desperate. New rule of thumb - Trust Nobody.

I've not been subjected to this scam myself (yet). But twice I've now used Mr Toom between BKK and Patts and the drivers have been there as agreed and have recited the information i've relayed to Mr Toom in the email - I guess to verify to them that I'm the right mand, and to verify to me that they are the right drivers.

I think it's such a handy little routine that you guys inhere could also apply it when booking a taxi/limo :-)

On the flip side , my wingman and I were returning from AC, our normal taxi driver wasnt there waiting for us at Gate 3, so we called and he said he was stuck in Pattaya and would be there shortly I said " No Poppem..Its Okay- I get new taxi man from airport to take us to Pattaya"

So I looked around gate 3 and said" Taxi Taxi" and had 3 dudes give me there card.- I said" Pattaya 1000 baht and he said yes" and off we went
