Friends, I need your advice on somewhere near the beach, but not too near Pattaya. I want to be as close to BKK as possible, but don't want to be in the middle of the Pattaya scene for personal reasons.

But my GF and I have bad memories there and don't want to stir things up by being too close. I certainly might go to Patts to meet up with some friends, but don't want to be staying there.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

I know you said Chonburi but why not go to Phuket the beach is nicer and it is about an hours flight from BKK and airasia rates are very low, I don't know if you girl has ever been there but it is a very laidback romantic place you might want to give it a look.I took my lady there and we had a great time I actually got in the water as it's much cleaner than in Pattya.

Why not stay at the far side of Jomtien Beach??..beach is pretty good and 15 mins to central Patts by car,but far enough away to remain anonimous...or is that still too close??

Bob, this is the best Idea yet. Do you have any recommendations as far as hotels? I had thought of Jomtien, but don't want to be "just over the hill" so to speak.

I definitely want to go to Phuket with Nong at some point. Yes, she has been there - for work - so I'm not excited about that connection. But my next trip will include North Thailand to visit the family and village again, and the trip will be less that two weeks total. So I don't want to spend the extra airfare for Phuket this time.

I will get in almost any water, but Phuket looks especially nice. I really want to do some kayaking around that area, too.

Hey mate,

Just to let you know that I have booked a hotel in Rim Pae for a couple of nights for my trip in March.
The hotel is called the Novotel Rim Pae and I have added some pictures below for you.

The hotel cost £22 per night per room and that includes breakfast for 2 people and the hotel has 2 pools and a private beach, it's less than 1 hour away from Patts and should be private enough for you to both have some chill time.

I got the rate on Agoda.com and I thought it was a great deal.
You can get a minibus for 250 per person or a taxi for around 500.

Let me know if you want any more details.

Cheers

BD

I don't know if you read the content in your link, but Hua Hin is 200 km south of Bangkok. I wouldn't consider a three hour drive to be close? Nevertheless, it is a very nice place to visit if you are looking for a quiet getaway. -Swedeman

Thanks, guys, for the ideas. Actually, Nong and I stayed at Hua Hin last August. Looks like we will go for something nice in Jomtien, and later a few days on Koh Samet.

JB,
I've missed so many of your updates about everything. I hope all is still going well as it looks like it is :)

Thanks, Up2U. There have been some interesting developments, but all is well. I have mostly been giving posting a rest for a while, but may start in again. Not sure.
