I figure the main reason i get sick once every trip is that I like licking ladyboy's assholes. Can't help myself, I'm a sucker for rimming.

The only advice I will give, is to avoid shellfish (especially clams).

One should also keep in mind, the sexual proclivities of us members, may expose us to bacteria that will caused some bowel upset. Be sure the "tools" you put in your mouth are clean.

shellfish can indeed be very bad news - think i got the bug twice with seafood boiled rice - most likely the prawn was the culprit there

i have a thai friend here who keeps asking if you are watching 'Prawn' on the computer !!!

I have a pretty rough stomach at the best of times and always get a bout when in LOS. It's due to your stomach not being used to the bacteria in this part of the world that results from less hygiene and hot weather. The beer doesn't help either, but rest assured you will get over it pretty quick if/when it happens. If it's pretty bad hit the pharmacy and they'll sort you out, they deal with this all the time. Get something to plug you, that powered sachet stuff that replaces electrolytes and drink plenty of bottled water - then enjoy your holiday!

The BRAT diet helps.

Bananas

Rice (plain boiled)

Applesauce (or skinned apple)

Toast (nothing on it)

Shellfish and shrimp are the culprits that occasionally get me. My doc tells me to avoid raw, uncooked veggies that have been washed in non-purified water.

I take Imodium along with me, and that, along with the bland diet noted above, has always done the trick.

As i'm reading this thread one quick and easy thing to do is when you touch down in LOS, is go by local pham. and get a box of Levoquin or any other antibiotic. At the first signs start a normal cycle and continue until that cycle is complete. This will limit full onset and it kills any other bacteria. I have worked in the medical field for over 13 yrs now. If you don't want to do a round of meds, then yes do the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, apple sauce not juice, and toast) for 3-4 days. This will help filter out the causes and helps as a detox. If you drink gataorade or powerade and drinks like that, then you need equal amounts water too. Also, Listerine and warm salt water gargles help too! Sorry for the rambling but I hate for people to be sick on holiday. :Angry (With Teeth):

my experience is from just a few weeks ago May 2001, i spent 9 nights in Pattaya, for 8 of those nights i was with spicer77 who eat and drank the same. I pretty much eat and drank what i wanted, 3 times i eat off the streets as thats where the lb.'s i have taken wanted to eat. We had the big drum of water with ice, they scooped the plastic mug in and i drank it all. Had ice a few times, but then i remember spicer77 having a singapore sling and long island ice tea, bit with ice.
He arrived home a day earlier than me and has been fine, no problems, but after 3 days of being home i got the trots, then had what i would describe as a heavy cold, i was hot in the body and yet my body was freezing and covered in sweat, after that went which was around 5 days i got the trots back and even today i would say i am not 100% right in that department!

Now was it what i eat or drunk, i am not sure, yes i think it could be, some say it could be the stale air conditioning in the plane, i could even have got the bug from home within those first few days, i have no idea.
What i do know is i have never felt so bad, most days i felt sick in the morning then would be ok for long periods then i was physically sick around 3 different times, but it was the tummy that caused me the biggest problem

As been said i would not recommend blocking it up with any tablets, get it out of your body, eat nothing or dried stuff like crackers and drink tons of water, keep flushing it out. In total i would say i have been ill for 14 days, but i don't think it's a given i would be ill again next time, sometimes it's just your luck i guess.
Interestingly, i read here beer wont help, before i landed in Pattaya i had not drunk beer for over 11 years, no real reason just it always gave me a headache, so i stopped, but when there i thought it would be one of the safest as the tops are all sealed, maybe that didn't help me, who knows.

Anyway, i am now looking to rebook and give it another go….soon

I am having constant flashbacks since reading this, a few years back I came down with a bad tummy, nothing major just your standard travellers stomach. The GG I was with went to the pharmacy and came back with a bunch of stuff that I took on advise, the result was not being able to poo for couple of days. At the very end, when whetever crazy stuff they'd given me wore off, I have never, ever in my entire life been through an experience like that before. The pool girl in bed must have thought someone was emptying the drains on the street. :(

exactly.

Imodium is really not the answer.

my experiences have shown me that Imodium just delays any cure by keeping it all inside of you.

just one more drug they can sell you that really does not help.

it is not a cure, just a cork for your butt.

I get "travelers" diarrhea everytime I go to LOS (30 years and counting) I usually go to the local pharmacy and get 8 500mg ciproflaxin tablets eat 2 right away then one ever 8 hours after. It kills everything in your stomach including the "good" bacteria you need so before you eat anything get yourself a yogurt to replenish the good bacteria and wait a few hours before resuming normal activities. I swear everytime It works and I can eat most anything (except Lao food) with impunity. Normally I am "cured" in 24 hours but it has taken up to 36 on some cases. Carefull with imodien and other anti-diarrhea meds as if you do have something serious not being able to purge it out can lead to some serious complications.

Imodiem and loperamide are fine if you have diarrhea caused by a food allergy or intolerance, but Tlok and Bkkldby are right if its bacterial you need to get it out of the system, and if it continues for more than a few days get it tested, as different bacteria are sensative to different antibiotics....most of all drink lots of water, replacing electolyes helps too but don't over do it.
