This is why I never stay in Thailand for more than 2-3 weeks. It is so easy to have boring job (like I have) and stay in paradise to forget farangland responsibilities but... eventually you loose connection with reality and end up in a gutter...

Not to be mean to anyone but that's one of the things I've noticed about life.
Those that aspire for something and stick to goals are generally more driven, happier as a bunch than those who just don't care about things anymore and are fully content the way they are.
It also seems the people who keep working harder longer in life tend to have longer lifespans than those who completely retire.
So its a good direction for once to an interesting story. Is it an ending? We'll see.

Yes the guy was always in the back of my mind, and I was happy to see this this morning.
Over the years, the amount of mentally unstable people that is dumped in Pattaya is terrible.
Some aristocratic or very rich family's, with a member of the family mentally ill, will pack them off to Pattaya, because they are an embarrassment around their social life, Hire and send money to a lawyer, to pay the bills and give that person an allowance. So the person is quietly out of the way.
And some family's who just quite can't afford that, pack them off, hoping they will never see the person again, as they leave the person with a wad of cash to start with, and to fend for himself, knowing when it all runs out, they are sure the person will surely get into some kind of trouble, be it death or jail.
I've run into them, from time to time in my path, and know their stories.
Then you got like our friend here..... example;
You remember that Norwegian that died in his condo after his new pet cobra bit him, for the second time. His neighbors in the condo complex where he lived which was on the ground floor, all feared the man, as he was a mental case, but in an aggressive way, and was never out of the news.
before that..........
He was well known of slashing his neighbors wheels, and threatening they with a loaded pistol, because they were parking outside his window.
before that..........
He was a police volunteer (boy scouts on WS) until they realized he was a nut case, and kicked him out.
But in his own mental state of mind, he thought he was now a member of the swat team, and jazzed his pick-up truck with police flashing lights and sirens, and police logos all over it, and spent his evenings driving around with sirens blaring, lights flashing, trying to arrest people that annoyed him. Some times he would be sitting in a bar with an empty shoulder holster, telling everyone what he thought he was. Wile sitting some where, his pick-up truck would be close by, with a few unsecured loaded weapons in the back, for anyone to take.
Each time these incident occurred, the police showed up, but give him a slap on the wrist and told him off, and walked away. Why? I guess it's because he was a well known mentally ill person..... they were getting a lot of donations for the policeman's ball..... he came from a very influential rich family,
That's why in the beginning his death was very suspicious, as police thought at first (because of all the trouble he caused)one of his neighbors maybe slipped the snake into his room, or it was suicide, as he was bitten before, but was lucky they found him in time.
Pattaya is a favorite dumping ground for the mentally ill....

It's certainly nice to hear a good side to the story, after all the misery the chap suffered. Seeing the photos of him handcuffed and in a dispicable state of health was truly unacceptable... in this day and age.
Yes, many of you have ehoed the same sentiments and quite rightly so. This should never happen to any human being.. No matter how mentally affected they are. To simply put them on the streets to be forgotten and left to their own devices is not only a breech of their human rights, but a total lack of professional ethics as far as the care for those affected by mental health.
I know this is Thailand and not some place in the USA, UK or Europe. Surely the same principles should be the same though. If those who are discarded on the pattaya streets are left to carry on for themselves, then what of the safety of the tourist and residents of pattaya? This should go hand in hand if the police / government want to be seen to clean up the public image of their tourist trap ''Pattaya''.
Just my 2 cents worth..
