1. I find a 12/13 hour flight too long whereas two 6 hour flights with a break of far more relaxing.
I agree with you.
And i think that european company raised prices and lowered the service in the years...

Just confirmed my booking with Emirates. Dublin to Bangkok for 659euro. Great value.

Never flown with Emirates but their reviews seem good both on here and other websites.

Always fly Emirates now, cant beat them allthough alot ov their flights have gone up abit, but manged to get flight out ov Gatwick on the 10th Jan 2012 for £540 with the 2% for credit card payment so worked out about 551-85p that was the best i could find around this time with WeFly.com return leg first part on the new 380Airbus 2nd leg on way back have upgraded to business as have alot ov air miles to use up before i lose them!! Return on the 9th Feb 2012... landing at Gatwick which is great for me living in Brighton! Regards Garry

Was glad I made the jump up to Emirates on my last trip, on the outbound legs I got lucky that the plane wasn't full so despite being in Economy I could spread out a bit. On the DXB - BKK leg I had a row of 3 to myself.

On the way home I had the A380 for BKK - DXB. Seemed like a great plane but I didn't have any luck with the seating. Sat on the first row behind a wall and my fold out ICE system did not work despite numerous requests for the crew to get it reset. I ended up sleeping instead.

Back to the 777 for the DXB - LGW leg, because the plane was undersold again I saw a row of 3 seats empty and quickly jumped in. It was near one of the emergency exits so infinite legroom and my ICE worked this time. I even worked out how to plug in my USB stick to look at photos on the screen.

Apart from the slightly off experience on the A380 I'll definitely go again with them.

Just got my Gold Sky awards card for Emirates. Sent it from Dubai via DHL in a lovely little Gold box, bit like opening up a Christmas present. Jolly exciting stuff. They even give you a little spin around letter opener in shape of a propellor to put on my desk. Only real advantage I can see for me is that I now don't have to walk all the way to the Emirates lounge, right down opposite the Irish bar, but can use the one in the new terminal regardless of what class of seat I'm in. Its about £7 pound a pint at Dubai airport, and thats a cheap one, where as in the Emirates Lounge, beer, wine etc is free. Hopefully get bumped up the free upgrade list too. The other potential bonus is they give you an extra 16kg checked luggage allowance, it was 30 already, so thats 46kg. If I can wrangle another 10kg I could pack an average weight LB in my suitcase on the return leg.

However, standards seem to have slipped on Emirates over the last year or so, some of the staff seem a bit on the miserable side now. But now armed with my Gold card, Im expecting a lot more smiles and perhaps the odd BJ from the trolley
dolly. Test run very soon.

those smoking rooms at DXB are lethal, looks like a Nazi gas chamber. Everyone was choosing to smoke outside of them, regardless of the warning signs.

.. dont expect too much as Gold Card Member. The advantages and attendeces are declined during the last years. I am still four years in a row Gold Member and reached every Year more than 100.000 Tier Miles(2011 was it 145.000 Miles). Did they notice? No. Did I get more upgrades? No, in 2008, 2009 I had much more luck. 2011 only one or two free upgrades, as I remember. Only that the purser show up and greet you :Bonkers: no real benefit

Ive done Ok on the upgrade front, last trip upgrade Dubai Bangkok,,,,then Bangkok Dubai, another. Had an upgrade on at least one leg on the last consecutive 4,or even 5 trips last year. Although Emirates like all airlines are slashing the little perks. Didn't even get the little travel bag with toothbrush and razor last flight in Business.

I agree on the general rules, fly an Asian line or a middle east airline. I fly from Toronto so I always go Air Canada via either Tokyo or Hong Kong (used to be Tokyo as I was a smoker then and needed a puff).

Air Canada are great on their new 777, the trouble comes on the next leg. I make it a rule now to avoid United Airlines, thyey really must be the worst, no entertainment at all. Again I try and get a Star Alliance member for the final legs.

Try AC, they are just fine
