Have you tried a different Firewall? Also are you using 2 Firewalls ... ur modem Firewall may be on as well as ur software firewall ... conflict between the two.

IT USED TO BE WHEN WE HAD PROBLEMS, AND A DISCUSSION WAS IN PROCESS, THAT SOMEONE WOULD MONITOR IT. I DO NOT SEE THAT OCCURRING NOW, OR DID I MISS SOMETHING?

again i will say thanks for trying to help, and again i will say/ask ...

if i have changed nothing, my entire system is up-to-date and has been all along, i was always able to access the forum and navigate and post with ease, AND I CAN DO THE SAME ON THAI VISA FORUM WHICH RUNS THE SAME SCRIPT, why would any of what you are saying have occurred or be a problem?

PLEASE REPLY TO THAT QUESTION SPECIFICALLY:

I REPEAT, OTHER FORUMS ARE NOT GIVING ME PROBLEMS THAT RUN THE SAME SCRIPT, WHY WOULD I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS FORUM AND NOT THOSE? IT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME AT ALL. IF THAT MAKES SENSE TO YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN IT TO ME IN SIMPLE TERMS. YOU SEEM TO KEEP AVOIDING THIS FACT/QUESTION OR SKIPPING OVER IT.

and now i read Vics post above and it makes me even more curious.

AGAIN, THANKS FOR TRYING.

Could be due to a number of causes - without knowing the exact range of software you are using, it will be very difficult to answer.

One possibility is that you use a firewall/antivirus/behavioral shield that uses "website reputation" or "keyword-based filtering" which prevents loading some of the javascript when the websites test positive on porn keywords.

Another possibility is different routings for LBP and for Thaivisa, one being slow and the other faster.

You say the same script is used by Thaivisa and LBP - which is probably not accurate. The forums have different modules installed, maybe use different subversions, and use different templates, and possibly include different javascript libraries or different versions thereof.

Also, the page might load different components depending on client browser, version, OS, language, location, IP, ISP, referrer, template, etc.

If two javascripts use the same variable name or function, it can have unpredictable effects and is very tricky to diagnose.

Also, poorly coded templates can cause that type of error, especially on slower connections, because some javascript will expect HTML objects to exist beforehand, but in some cases the javascript loads before the HTML object and can't execute properly.

Other differences might be in the HTML Doctype, which changes how the browser interprets the page code and how the DOM gets accessed. Some browsers are more anal about small mistakes than others (but this probably doesn't apply in your case).

Another problem might be caused by your ISP if your IP is dynamically renewed for each request. If the forum has a security feature enabled to match the session cookie with the client IP, the page load might be disrupted, some parts loading, others not.

...

there might be other reasons I didn't even think of, but bottom line is that your problem is tricky to nail.

ok ... thanks ... +1 for the assist & one last question:

if i have not (knowingly/personally) changed a thing in regard to my software, settings, my firewall, router, connection or any other aspect of the operating system, how is it that all of a sudden one day (coincidentally when the search thing was being addressed) would i all of sudden have all these problems arise, and Vic also?

further, my speed is averaging 12.16 Mbps, and i have not seen it less than 11 Mbps in ages ... i would think that is sufficient. Yes/No?

...

- Eventually the small green graphic appears on the top centre of the screen - with the three small boxes - and the post gets posted in line...

I think the 3 small boxes are a basic 'loading in progress' graphic. I regularly get this, but none of your other symptoms.

There are several possibilities why the problems appeared just now:

- if you have any security software set to auto-update, there might have been a change without you noticing (my laptop powers up by itself in the night to update)

- a change at server or website level can explain the sudden appearance of problems - if a fix has been applied to solve the search problem, the fix might also have broken other things. See my above post to know why this can be a bitch to diagnose. BTW, I forgot browser incompatibilities in the list.

Regarding speed:

- you won't have the same speed to all servers. some I can only access with 20kb/s inspite of having a 20Mbits connection. Depends on the routing and the servers in between.

Regarding your current problems, my money is on coding incoherences in the (custom) template and possibly modules of IPB.

But I repeat these are tricky, and browsers are known to play up like divas with javascript issues, so I'm in no way blaming anyone, these things can happen.

Similar shit happened to me and I have spent 90 hours straight working on it before solving the problem. :-(

Try C Cleaner which is free to check ur Registry ... failing that by the time you fuck around it is quicker to try a Win 7 repair and if that fails to then to reformate and re-install everything.

Logged on today and the forum is magically working smoothly again.

I made no changes to my machine and didn't turn it off and re-boot from the last log on session either. A strange but welcome development.

Curiously, the Favicon remains a grey 'V' on a blue background.

I guess corrections were made to the template file(s).

you could be right, but seeing as no one from admin has bothered to reply to any of this discussion (for the last 27 posts) its hard to tell if they did anything and if so, was it intentional.

can someone in admin reply and let us know why you have chosen to not reply to any of this discussion, or offer any kind of assistance or up-date, regarding all of this?

I think your message is a bit harsh.

The site is provided free of charge, plus the problem has been fixed.

So thank you to whoever fixed the issue.

possibly you are right, but i remember a time when free or not, the functionality of the site and accessibility for members had some level of priority wherein issues of this nature are addressed in a timely manner, and members were kept up to date as to what was happening.

this thread was particularly started to address what is a fairly important issue regarding site functionality. after years of being a contributing member i had issues that made posting and navigating very difficult, as well as at least one other contributing member. i would have thought that sometime during all the posting, and all the BMs that were graciously trying to help, admin would have jumped in at some point and commented, asked a few questions in an attempt to help, and participate.

i apologize to anyone who may thnk my post seemed harsh, but i really would like to know why this thread was ignored.

maybe the issue has not been completely resolved and they are still working on details and will post a complete heads up later.

techies are usually not too good at PR and people skills. the same strongly applies to me.

i think you are being very humble in regard to this as you have submitted no less than 9 detailed posts in an attempt to assist (as well as LWFM who is also a BM who took the time to help out). so give yourself a bit of credit.

again, thanks.

Thanks to transgirls for all his suggestions in trying to get this resolved,AlexP has still been working the developers at IPBoard to get this resolved since 11th August so if it is now working for BKK this could be due to any tweaks they have made. AlexP is still working with them now.

I just tried using the following search term: 'am I gay' (I just felt that I needed to explore this topic for some reason). This is the response: No results found for 'gay'.
