  1. Grab taxi is a great service if you are mobile phone savvy. Pick up from you mobile phone location - just make sure driver knows where you are heading. If not exact location then some landmark on Google works.
  2. Arrive Visit immigration Start retirement visa. If you are relying on income rather than capital deposit this must be endorsed by your Embassy here in Thailand each year upon renewal. Capital is about 25k USD. Put on fixed term deposit and use each year for renewal. Treat it like an emergency fund which is there if you need it - just make sure it is above 800,000 Baht 3 months prior to renewal.
  3. Yes you can. The important point is why do you want an O visa? Planning retirement in Thailand? The O visa gives you time to apply for a retirement visa while staying here. 800,000 Baht in a Thai bank for 60 days prior to application. Forms. Photos etc. Google Thailand O visa immigration For official sites

Lol, thanks S/w - i'll take a deep breath and try again!

  5. I read the article as "How you could live on 65,000 Baht per month" It would not be my lifestyle choice but obviously others with less can do so. Medical Insurance. Totally agree - it is not good to be here without - it is a necessity. Also note Medical insurance does not cover traffic accidents so riding a motorbike needs accidental cover. Exchange rate is always the unknown parameter - arriving when it was 76 to 1 UKP and now 43. However I am living in Thailand so I need to look at the cost in Baht of living in Thailand. Cost of living increase has only been about 2% but the pounds required to service that expense has increased by much more. I did my initial planning at 60 Baht and over 12 years that has been about my average - hoping the current rate will improve. In all my working life I realised that any formal pension (Old Age Pension, 401K, Super) was never going to be enough so made plans to save and invest - hope it lasts out. All very useful information which needs to be adapted to reflect an individuals needs.
  6. A very well put together breakdown. We all have different lifestyles so not 'One Size fits All' but it shows that you can enjoy a reasonable lifestyle in Pattaya for under 65,000 Baht per month. Thanks for the link.
  7. A bit Apples and Oranges... The exchange rate has been a disadvantage but my spending in Thailand is in Baht and not in UK Pounds so the 2 issues are really separate. On one hand I am using more Pounds to buy the required Baht which affects me personally. In my time here 76 Baht down to 43 to the pound. The up side is buying a home at that time was a reasonable decision. On the other hand cost of living in Thai Baht has not increased that much - about 2% per annum over 10 years Food and basic necessities seem to have had lower inflation. Not sure about Rents and Utilities. Beer has gone up about 30% https://tradingeconomics.com/thailand/inflation-cpi
  8. Looking at Cost of Living in Thailand. Interesting to note that Immigration, for a retirement visa, requires 800,000 Baht in the bank or a proven income of 65,000 per month. They are not far out as that is what they estimate for a Farang to need to live in Thailand.
  9. French restaurant between Pattaya and Jomtien: http://www.auboncoinpattaya.com/chef.htm https://www.facebook.com/pages/Au-Bon-Coin-French-Restaurant/158569184205791
  10. A number of people have tried to book Areca for LBWVB. The hotel shows fully booked. That is true on Agoda. Booking.com. Tripadviser etc. Areca only releases rooms to these booking agents about 1 month prior. If you book direct there is no problem. Mention staying for LBWVB and you should get a discount for that weekend 17th Nov. I will try and get an Email contact to make it easy. Do not believe availability on booking sites - rooms are just not released to them yet.
  11. Best Italian Pizza is at Grottino on Soi 33 Naklua - on right hand side of the Soi 33 No Thick Crust, Chicago (not in Italy), Cheese Filled, Fat Bastard Pizza - just normal original Napoli style Pizza. https://www.facebook.com/Grottino-Restaurant-Pizzeria-533421586792058/?rf=208881199292408 Excellent. Owned by Antonio who is a terrific guy. Inside and Outside dining
  12. Text below copied from Thai visa site. You can get 60 days on etry and extend in country (Thailand) a further 30 days from Thai imigration office. Total 90 days Further extension requires a border run. Tourist Visa This is a 60-day Tourist Visa to Thailand that can either be a multiple or single entry and can be extended for up to another 30 days by means of a visa run. Well if you want to extend longer than 30 days, you can convert the visa to a Non-Immigrant Visa which will require you to go to the nearby city or country such us Penang and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
  13. Liverpool. Thai visa office does not say different. The 90 days is the maximum. After that a border run required. Is that more a Yes or No response? Hellah. By all means take the advice of an unqualified 3rd party rather than the authorative source.
