Call me dumb all you want, but how is taking away honest citizens guns going to solve the problem?

I feel the problem is the honest citizen of today is the possible lunatic of tomorrow or like the poor woman who owned the guns that killed the kids ,the son is a nut job ,surely any sane thinking person must be able to see some sort of control needs to be in place .
